Friends of Scouting is the National Capital Area Council's annual fundraising campaign. Like all non-profit groups, Scouting cannot survive without volunteer support from leaders and the financial generosity of many people - including the families of Pack 684. The Boy Scouts of America has maintained the same spirit and goals since its founding in 1910:
- To provide a positive influence for character development
- Citizenship training
- Personal fitness
The National Capital Area Council of BSA serves 16 communities in Virginia and Maryland, as well as the District of Columbia. There are over 73,000 youth members being led by over 23,000 adult volunteer leaders in the National Capital Area Council. The council provides many services for your son and Pack 684 that you may not have thought of, including:
- Goshen Scout Reservation and Camp William B. Snyder
- Cub Scout Day Camp
- The Council Service Center in Bethesda, MD
- Training for adult volunteer leaders
- Help for new Scouting units
- Professional staff support
- Liability insurance for our chartered organization
Last year the families of our council donated close to $500,000 - about 12% of the council's total budget!! The remainder of the council's budget comes from:
- Popcorn sale (which our Pack chooses not to participate in!)
- Foundations
- Special events
- Sale of supplies
- United Way / CFC
- Investments
Please carefully consider this opportunity, and give whatever you feel your family can afford based on your personal financial situation and the generosity you feel toward the Scouting program. To find out more or to donate online go here .
